• Have car and be willing to travel
• Cognizant of services and agencies in school and community which can meet the needs of migrant children
• Bilingual abilities preferred, but not required

JOB GOAL: To determine the presence and location of migratory children in Rapides Parish
To determine the eligibility of migrant children for enrollment in the Title I Migrant Education Program. To act as a critical link between the home and school, and between the migrant
family and other service providers.
TERM: Twelve months
SALARY: Migrant Recruiter / Advocate Salary Schedule
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Conduct interviews with potentially eligible migrant parents, guardians, or a reliable source to secure necessary information about each child and record the basis of the child’s eligibility on a Certificate of Eligibility (COE); send COE to Senior Recruiter.
2. Know federal regulations and all definitions concerning migrant eligibility.
3. Establish a rapport with employers of migrant workers, school personnel, and other sources that can provide information on possible migrant families in the LOA.
4. Work cooperatively with migrant advocates and other agencies having general knowledge of the different services available to migrant families.
5. Visit the migrant student's home to share and gain information about students and make suggestions concerning methods for parents to use to increase student learning.
6. Assist students in communicating with school personnel.
7. Ensure that currently migratory children have basic school supplies.
8. Serve as a resource to school personnel in regular and summer school to enhance learning opportunities.
9. Coordinate with school personnel to ensure that each child is receiving appropriate district services before Migrant-funded intervention.
10. Coordinate activities with employment agencies, migrant advocacy groups, growers, co-ops, farm labor groups, religious organizations, and all other public or private agencies.
11. Make every effort to enroll all preschool children in appropriate programs such as Head Start, Preschool, and Special Education.
12. Encourage parental participation in the school with a goal to facilitate parental independence in dealing with schools and other Federal, state, and community service agencies.
13. Perform any other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
